weather on the way. we'll talk about that coming up. >> and just your overnight roadwork out there right now to slow you down including some across the dumbarton bridge. westbound 84 may be slow for the next hour or so. similar story up the nimitz through downtown oakland. we'll show you all your areas of overnight roadwork coming up in just a few minutes. >> all right, elizabeth. thank you. some developing news in san francisco. shots are fired at a police officer during a chase in the mission district. one suspect is now under arrest. two others are at large. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in san francisco with an update. >> reporter: i'm at 23rd and bryant where officers just wrapped up their investigation in this area. we saw them tow away that suspect vehicle that was parked here where before the suspects ran away. we're told that they are still looking for two additional suspects. there is a possibility they could still be armed. now, sfpd says this incident started around 1:30 this morning. they say one of their officers

were shot at multiple times from a moving car. it was an undercover officer. he called for help after that. that officer chased the car to the 2500 block here at bryant street. and three suspects jumped out of the car and tried to get away. after that the officer again was able to catch one suspect. again, there are two on the loose. we don't have a description at this point. we know it's an ongoing investigation. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. new this morning, police in oakland are searching for three suspects allegedly involved in a home invasion robbery overnight on coral road. police say the suspects were armed. so far authorities are not saying what was stolen. he homered again! another! >> well, there you go. the panda meets the tigers. and what a way to start the world series last night. the giants get three homeruns from that guy, pablo sandoval, on the way to a big winner in

game number one. the giants taking a lopsided 8- 3 win over the american league champion tigers at at&t. and they had a little luck along the way. check it out, an rbi double angel pagan up the third base bag. sandoval's three home runs tied him with babe ruth, reggie jackson and albert pujols as the only player over it do that in the world series game. he did it in his first three at- bats. he broke his bat on the third one. >> other things you got inside, you -- if you have faith, you have to believe in yourself. >> where's that bat now? >> they got it for cooperstown to take it. >> okay. [ laughter ] >> it's that bad. >> on its way to new york. barry zito went 5 2/3 innings giving up just the one run and some great defense out there. the giants won 8-3. game 2 at 5:07 the first pitch tonight at at&t park. >> exciting there. >> it was.

the fans are just loving this last night. >> i bet. it's the world series. why not. it was a fun night for the fans. >> it was. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec at at&t park with some of the craziness here the morning after. anne, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the scene here behind me at at&t park certainly a different scene than what we saw just a few hours ago when the stands were packed with screaming fans, of course. tonight game 2, they are going to be packed again. first pitch is 5:07 p.m. >> the giants! whoo! >> reporter: 2012! >> reporter: yeah. those are some fans here last night. several hours after the game ended, they were still celebrating the giants 8-3 victory over the tigers from licensed mlb gear to whatever they could find in orange and black, fans showing their giants pride. >> i went to get the best suit that i thought that would represent the giants. i think i found it. >> is that specially made or you found it off the rack?

>> shockingly i found it off the rack and it was on sale. >> now, of course, the scalpers were out in force yesterday as well promising to hook up any fans willing to pay up for last- minute tickets. the best bet might be stubhub.com who has a partnership with at&t park offering you some protection. otherwise it is certainly buyer beware. if you want tosses part of the game for free this is where you're going to want to be today. this is on the waterfront promenade on the mccovey code side of the park where you can watch three innings for free before you're rotated out by security. but if you come here to do that come early. fans will start lining up within the next several hours. live at at&t park, i'm anne makovec. back to you guys. >> i like that suit. mayor lee and detroit mayor david bing have decided on their world series bet. the loser will visit the other city and do community service.

the sprinkles light drizzle continuing. temperatures by the afternoon 70s in the valley, 70 napa, 70 livermore, 60s in toward the coastline. but you know what? we could actually see some 80s on the weekend. we'll have more on that in a few minutes. right now let's check on the roads with elizabeth. >> may still be slick out there in spots from yesterday's rain. so yeah, be extra careful if you are hitting the roads going to work. this is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. obviously, no delay. it looks really easy commute so far into san francisco. to our maps. i mentioned some areas of overnight roadwork. this is one spot heading into antioch. eastbound 4 at loveridge remains shut down. they do ongoing roadwork in the area until about 530. dumbarton bridge, westbound 84 various lanes blocked until 5:00 this morning. hears a live look outside again. this is the golden gate bridge. there may be roadwork in the northbound lanes of 101 past the span heading towards the

waldo tunnel just a heads up, caltrans out there a while longer. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." back to you guys. >> thank you. 4:37 now. investigators are looking into an officer-involved shooting that led to the death of a suspect up in lake county. it happened yesterday afternoon along highway 29 when a female chp officer pulled over a man in a stolen vehicle. the district attorney's office says it appears the officer shot the man after he attacked her and tried to take her gun. investigators say the suspect tried to drive off but crashed the car and later died. they say he had warrants out for his arrest, as well. cal-osha investigating the death of a mechanic crushed by a crane at the port of oakland. the accident happened yesterday morning as the 52-year-old man was inspecting the crane. cal-osha says the victim suffered head and chest injuries and later died at the hospital. a middle school teacher from the east bay is under arrest suspected of selling drugs. police found a pound of pot and

$4,200 in his car in the school's parking lot. 66-year-old alan goodman is a teacher at hercules middle school. officers searched his walnut creek home and say they found evidence of a marijuana grow and large amount of cash. it is 4:38. a high school teacher who works in fremont is leading a book club so students and others can enjoy books. she has been banned from using inside her classroom. the books in question include the critically acclaimed bastard out of carolina and angels in america. the teacher has an idea were such books have been banned from the classroom. >> many of the board members did not want their own children exposed to them. so they are projecting their own small-minded concerns on to the children of everyone. >> the fremont unified school district contends the books are not banned because they are still available inside the library there. the mission peak unitarian universalist church of hired hu to teach the books in a series

of monthly evening classes. a superintendent is commenting about a sex fantasy league at piedmont high school following revelations last week that the principal wrote to parents about the existence of the league and asked him to talk to their children. last night superintendent connie hubbard said the school district does not condone the students' alleged behavior but has no information on criminal conduct. oakland police are preparing for a series of protests today and tonight. it was one year ago today that the police used force to evict "occupy" protestors from frank ogawa plaza. a rally is planned at city hall at noon today to mark the anniversary. a march is planned tonight and protestors are expected to spend the night outside city hall. since the "occupy" raid last year, oakland police have arrested more than 700 protestors. but the "contra costa times" reports only 109 of them have been prosecuted. and only 37 of those have been convicted. a former police officer in san jose says time sheet fraud is rampant in the department.

thomas correa says in a lawsuit against the city that he refused to take part in the fraud and was forced to retire after 27 years on the force. he alleges that the time sheet abuse is especially bad in the airport division. he says officers there get a free day every other wednesday. it is 4:40. how about some politics now? ohio the latest state of focus of the presidential campaigns with both major candidates holding events there yesterday and today. new "time" magazine poll shows president obama leads mitt romney in the buckeye state by 5 points. but the president holds a 2-1 lead among people who said they already cast their ballots in ohio's early voting system. today romney will focus entirely on ohio with rallies in both columbus and the cincinnati areas. stops yesterday included reno. >> with a president that's out of ideas and out of excuses, why, on november 6 you're going to make sure we put him out of office. >> the president made

appearances in las vegas and on the tonight show yesterday evening he had this to say about the controversial comments on rape by republican u.s. senate candidate richard mourdock from indiana. >> rape is rape. it is a crime. ght. you can see the take a look at this surveillance video in kansas city, missouri. a man used a samurai sword to rob a church's chicken restaurant tuesday night. you can see the man with a dark gray hooded sweatshirt carrying the sword as he walks into the business. customers inside appeared a bit stunned and who wouldn't be by the man's actions. nobody was hurt. not clear how much money he stole. scary. 4:44. let's check the weather. >> what do the newspapers say? >> this one says, can't make this up, the panda rounding the bases. >> and, of course, top of the "chronicle." >> pandemonium. >> that was the word of the day. >>panda power. that was something. now he is in with babe ruth and a few other great folks. >> they hit verlander. everyone pretty much gave this game to detroit. >> barry zito! what a great game for him.

very happy. all right, folks. let's get to weather with sprinkles in the bay area early on this morning. this is the last gasp of the storm system as it works its way out of the bay area. moisture sliding through on 280 may get wet at times so watch out for that. but this is going to settle down into the morning hours. long gone by the afternoon. so light showers out there now but by the afternoon partly cloudy skies, and some sunshine and warmer temperatures. 60s and even a few 70s. high pressure beginning to lift into the bay area although we have some of that leftover moisture but that will be gone soon. and once this ridge parks here it's going to be around right for the weekend meaning we have great weather coming our way and much warmer temperatures toward the weekend, too. all right. a lot of clouds out there now. couple of those light sprinkles and showers continuing. looks like as we head throughout the day skies clear out and for the game tonight we are looking good no threat of any precipitation at all for the game and it should be a great night to get out and see the world series.

60s in the central valley, 40s into the high country, lake tahoe. bay area 60s and low 70s for highs today. next couple of days though we look like we crank up the temperatures maybe 80s by saturday and sunday. and can you believe this? toward halloween, we have a spooky looking storm headed our way! oking storm headed maybe some more rain on next wednesday. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> it always rains on halloween. why is that? it's not right. all right. thanks, lawrence. let's take you out to our maps and show you some of our live traffic sensors. things look good this morning but we have areas of roadwork so this is scheduled to wrap up about 5:30, full freeway closure in pittsburg, eastbound 4 approaching loveridge. check the conditions in westbound 580, this looks good. you may find roadwork in lanes in the eastbound lanes through livermore but through the altamont pass in the commute direction, westbound still looks good all the way towards the dublin-pleasanton area. similar story across the dumbarton bridge. more roadwork this time the westbound lanes of 84 scheduled

to wrap up in about 15 minutes. elsewhere you'll notice it's still slick in spots. this is a live look outside. this is the golden gate bridge and you can see that ghostly pre-halloween effect of the lights there so again a little damp in spots westbound and northbound and southbound 101 still look good. actually look, there's a lane change truck making its way across the span now so trying to get more southbound 101 lanes open to cars heading into san francisco. elsewhere live look up the nimitz 880 through oakland 980 towards embarcadero you will find various lanes blocked but looks good right now as you pass oakland airport the coliseum all the way down into hayward and mass transit really nothing to note. so far everything is reporting no delay. that is your "timesaver traffic." back to you guys. >> thank you. a large bite mark left in the surfboard, the evidence of a deadly shark attack. wildlife experts confirm a 15 or 16-foot great white shark killed a surfer in santa

barbara county attacked in the waters off surf beach. that beach is closed. hurricane san did i is hitting cuba and -- sandy is hitting cuba and the bahamas. it's caused some deaths and evacuated more than 400 tourists in cuba. it's likely sandy will produce tropical storm conditions along the southeastern florida coastline, the upper keys and florida bay tomorrow. >> we advise people not to go into the water. it is very, very rough. >> a tropical storm watch is in effect for much of florida now. in hawaii the kileaua volcano is putting on another spectacular show. one crater has been erupting since 1983. but now lava is reaching record levels at yet another crater. visitors may soon be able to see the lava at a safe distance from an overlook at hawaii volume cano national park. scientists are keeping a watchful eye on those eruptions which are pretty spectacular. >> looks like it. a 17-year-old is behind

bars this morning charged with the murder of a 10-year-old colorado girl. austin sigg reportedly told his mother he killed the 10-year- old jessica ridgeway this month and his mother called police. police say he lived a mile from the girl. the arrest is two days after police also connected him to an attack on a jogger back in may. more signs that the housing industry is on the mend. according to realtytrac, foreclosures are down in the nation's largest metro areas. cities like san francisco, l.a., san diego, detroit and phoenix saw foreclosures fall substantially. they were down in some areas by as much as 26%. facebook is coming off its best day on wall street since it started selling stock in may. shares in the menlo park company jumped 19% yesterday to close at $23 in 23. that's still 38% below the $38 ipo price but the timing is good for employees who can convert their shares to actual stocks starting today and start

selling them on monday. microsoft releases a new version of its windows operating system today. windows 8 is designed to make desktop and laptop computers work more like tablets. best buy is hoping to capitalize on the new operating system. it's offering customers exclusive windows 8 computers and staff is specifically trained to explain and demonstrate the radically different operating system. 4:50. there's a chemical hazard in a lot of daycare centers here in california. it's formaldehyde which is considered a carcinogen under state law. uc-berkeley studied 40 child care centers in alameda and monterey counties. it found that formaldehyde in 35 of those 40 centers to be above state standards. new advice for every mother- to-be. get vaccinated against whooping cough. a federal panel now recommends that all pregnant women get the shot in their second or third trimester even if they have had it before and get vaccinated another time the next time they

are expecting. the thinking is the mother will transfer the disease fighting antibodies to the unborn baby. >> really to watch your children suffer is the most devastating experience. i don't wish that for anybody. >> this year has been the worst for whooping cough since 1959 and a growing number of parents are not vaccinating their children. there have been more than 32,000 cases nationwide. 16 of them fatal. well, with halloween less than a week away, there's a new way for parents to keep tabs on their kids. alert id is an online service that tells members of danger in an area including crime trends. it also has a feature that allows users to send pictures of their kids to the police if they go missing. and it also helps to fight crime. if you see something suspicious or that concerns you, you just post it and it goes out to all the neighbors in a mile radius. >> alert id is free and supported by local law
